About W.J. Saunders

All About me

My Story

Hey everyone! Welcome to my bio, my name is Wendy Saunders and as you can see, I also write as W.J. Saunders. Curious about me? Well, pull up a chair and fix yourself a cuppa and I’ll give you the abridged version of how I got from there to here.

So, as some of you might have guessed I’m a Brit… did the cuppa comment give me away? I’m also, and this may come as a surprise to some, a hairdresser. That’s right, I’m a late 80s, early 90s kid who never even considered a college education. I fell out of school, tripped over my first job and stumbled into my second. I trained as a hairdresser at sixteen and although I’ve had other jobs, I’ve always bounced back to it, but then again, it’s always been a lot of fun, it’s like a crash course in the art of human behavior. I mean, they say people only confess to their priests and hairdressers and boy, they weren’t kidding… the stuff I’ve heard in my chair. Still, you’ll have to wait for my autobiography to learn those particular secrets.

So how did I become a writer then? I’ve always written, right from being a kid. I was an avid reader and when I think back, I started showing signs of wanting to be a writer from the age of eight or nine. Honestly, it just didn’t occur to me to pursue it as a career until I was older and by then I was married and making babies.

My grandmother came to live with my husband and I, and for twelve years I cared for her. Nana was a fantastic lady, tiny, cute… liked to use the word fuck a lot. She grew up in India, born to British parents and educated by the Catholic nuns at a boarding school in the Himalayas, Jesus, the woman knew how to tell stories. She was hilarious and so when she passed away in 2015, I was lost.

That was the point at which I thought screw it, let’s give it a go and see what happens. I wrote my first novel, Mercy and published in Nov 2015. I figured you know, maybe someone will read it, if nothing else hopefully my family and friends would buy it out of pity. I certainly didn’t expect the response I got, the fantastic feedback, the five-star reviews and the amazing readers and fan base that grew from it. Now here I am five years later with thirteen novels and three short stories published. I’ve met some absolutely fantastic people along the way including my readers.

Now to make my books clearer and easier to navigate, I’ve separated them under two pen names. All my supernatural romantic suspense, such as my Guardians Series are written under Wendy Saunders. All of my contemporary romance, dark romance and romantic suspense is written under W.J Saunders, although many of my readers like to bounce back and forth between the two.

So, there we are, the short version of how I ended up here. I’m really pleased to meet you; I hope you enjoy my novels and if you want to get in touch feel free. I’m usually lurking about on my social media when I’m not writing and I’m happy to chat, it’s getting me to shut up that’s the problem, as you may have noticed…
